- Announcing Dates for Ninth Annual Superstars Ski Camp at Ski Portillo, Chile.
Aspen, CO. (Dec. 7, 2011) ̶ Professional skier, guide, and camp operator Chris Davenport is proud to announce the dates for the Ninth Annual Superstars Ski Camp at Ski Portillo, Chile. The camp will take place Aug. 11-18, 2012 and is only open to a maximum of thirty skiers.
Professional coaches will again include Mike Douglas of Whistler, BC, Ingrid Backstrom of Squaw Valley, CA, Wendy Fisher of Crested Butte, CO, and Chris Anthony of Vail, CO. The camp will also feature a professional photographer, who will document in stills and video the entire experience for the guests. The Superstars Camp is geared towards expert skiers looking to take their skiing to the next level with expert coaching on the skills of steep skiing, terrain recognition and management, proper mechanics, as well as good old powder skiing techniques.
Camp founder Chris Davenport says: “For eight years we have had a grand time skiing with and coaching amazing people from all over the world in Portillo. The terrain and the hotel make the perfect location for this type of ski-week, and the coaches and I all agree it’s one of the most fun weeks we experience throughout the year.
The cost of the camp is US$2500 and includes all coaching and activities both on and off the hill, including exclusive presentations by the professional staff, a world-class gift bag, and a DVD with images and video of each client’s skiing highlights. Note that the Portillo ski week is an additional cost.
To book this amazing skiing experience, guests should first book a Ski Week at Ski Portillo with Carolina Acuña, carolina@skiportillo.com. A seven-day ski week includes accommodations, lift tickets and four meals daily. - The Superstars Camp is Filling Up
The Superstars Ski Camp is an amazing week of good hard skiing and fun in the beautiful Andes Mountains. The cost of the camp is $2150 and that includes coaching with Chris Anthony, Ingrid Backstrom, Wendy Fisher, Mike Douglas and myself. The hotel costs are not included in the camp fee, and they vary based on what type of accommodation you choose. The Hotel Portillo is all-inclusive, so your ski week includes lodging, food, lift tickets and such. Rooms range in price, but I recommend a double-lake view room in the hotel, which usually runs around $2400 per person for the week (which ends up being around $300 per night including lifts and 4 meals per person). Other options are the Octagon lodge, which is more rustic but still fine. Those rooms are for four people but you can reserve it with only three and only pay for three. All in all, the week usually costs around $5500 per person including your airfare- so less than a week of heli-skiing- which reminds me they have great heli-skiing at Portillo

The hotel will pick you up at the airport but you must indicate that you would like this service when you book your hotel room – they will probably point you to Portillo Tours and Travel to book it. Our camp is geared towards expert skiers who are looking to take their skiing to new heights, but are generally too advanced for your normal ski lesson. So our coaches push you into new experiences in a safe and calculated manner. We ski hard and do some climbing and traversing to reach the best snow and terrain. It’s an incredible ski week and we have had nothing but great response over the last seven years in Portillo. Here is a video from two years ago that will give you an idea of the camp:
Bookings for the hotel go through Diana Unger at Ski Portillo diana@skiportillo.com Mention that you are with the Superstars Camp. Once you have your accommodation booked. Send me your reservation # and I’ll put you on the camp list.
Hope to see you there,
Dav
- Announcing Partnership with SOLE
01.25.2011– (Calgary, AB) SOLE, the manufacturer of premium footbeds, socks and shoes, has collaborated with world-class skier and mountaineer Chris Davenport to develop a snow sports-specific footbed. Available to consumers in early Fall 2011, the Signature CD Thin was purpose-built to perform in winter environments.
Like every SOLE Custom Footbed, the Signature CD Thin features a heat moldable, shock-absorbing base layer that provides a custom fit, excellent support, and optimal control. The footbed features a 3M™ Thinsulate™ insulating layer in a thin design for low volume footwear. The base contains 20 percent recycled content and the moisture-wicking top sheet with Polygiene® antimicrobial treatment contains 35 percent recycled content. One dollar from the sale of every pair sold will be donated directly to Protect Our Winters (POW), a non-profit organization dedicated to uniting and actively engaging the global snow sports community to fight against climate change.
“This was a fun project, because Dav is so passionate about the products he uses,” says Rob Nathan, SOLE’s Product Director. “We actually delayed the product launch a full year to get everything dialed.”
“I’ve been using SOLE’s products for a few years already, so I was thrilled to join their team and provide input in the design process,” adds Chris Davenport. “A supportive footbed that provides a precise fit and aids in alignment is one of the most important, often overlooked pieces of ski gear.
